Artist: Irene Nelson

Interior+Landscape+#4On her work Nelson says, “These recent prints evoke ‘internal’ landscapes I draw up from within without external referents. Using black ink on a plate I employ a subtractive wiping method using tartalan cloths, sharp tools, dry brushes, etc. to brush ink away. Finally, I use collaging techniques to add back color selectively. Often, I use materials I’ve made myself (hand made paper, etc.) The results of these layerings are dark brooding unspecific black and white landscapes, with interior “windows” that open onto other, similar receding landscapes of color and light.”
