Gallery: “Lines”, photography by Shane Gidcumb
November 1, 2013 - December 29, 2013
FreeThe clouds that hang on the horizon take on different shapes when seen through the lens of artist and photographer Shane Gidcumb. Gidcumb’s works transport their viewers high above cityscapes that are at once familiar places, as well as architectural, geometric dreams — images that Gidcumb refers to as “city clouds.”
Shane Gidcumb, who resides in Sonoma and was once a resident of San Francisco, has said that his goal “is to take the viewer back to the dreamlike state of childhood by playing with familiar images so that we are enticed to fantasize about them. At times, my interference with the way we normally see things provokes feelings that would otherwise be reserved for the farthest niches of our minds.”
Gidcumb’s “Lines” photographs debuted at Denver Photo Art Gallery this past August, with previous shows taking place at The Sonoma County Museum of History and Art in January and February of 2013, and The Live Worms Gallery in San Francisco in December of 2012.
Panorama is excited and honored to feature Gidcumb’s work, which will consist of large-format photographic prints of cotton fiber giclée mounted on aluminum; these limited edition prints will be available for sale at the gallery. Panorama Framing, Inc. combines the practicality of professional custom picture framing with an appreciation for the art inside (and outside!) those frames. Panorama opened their doors in February 2013, and has been an emerging presence on Grand Avenue since, hosting events, rotating art shows and art receptions, and promoting Grand Avenue’s First Thursdays.
